Medical Transcription: Employee or Independent Contractor
As a medical transcriptionist, you can choose to work as an employee or an independent contractor. As an employee, you may be able to work your own hours as long as you get a specific amount of work done each day or you may have to punch in and punch out so to speak working the same hours every day. Most of the large companies and hospitals offer benefits such as health insurance, vacation pay, paid time off, etc. Some will supply the computer equipment needed including the computer itself.
